1. Benchmark (noun)
Meaning – A standard or point of reference against which things may be compared.
Synonyms – standard, point of reference, basis, gauge, criterion, specification, canon, convention, guide.
Sentence – Her knowledge and skill were a benchmark for excellence.
2. Barely (adverb) – मात्र, मुश्किल से
Meaning – Only just; almost not.
Synonyms – hardly, scarcely, just, only just, narrowly.
Sentence – She nodded, barely able to speak.
3. Calibrated (adjective) – जांचना
Meaning – measured and careful
Sentence – The position of a pointer on a calibrated scale.
4. Unanimous (adjective) – एकमत
Meaning – a unanimous decision, vote, agreement etc is one that everyone agrees with and supports
Synonyms – in complete agreement, in complete accord, of one mind
Sentence – The doctors were unanimous in their diagnoses.
5. Neutral (adjective) – तटस्थ, निष्पक्ष
Meaning – a state of no activity or development.
Synonyms – impartial, unbiased, unprejudiced, objective, without favouritism.
Sentence – If you claimed you were neutral either side would kill you.
6. Opportune (adjective) – सामयिक
Meaning – something that is opportune happens at a suitable time or at a time that seems lucky
Synonyms – auspicious, propitious, favourable, advantageous, heaven-sent
Sentence – He couldn’t have arrived at a less opportune moment.
7. Pivot (noun) – धुरी
Meaning – The central point, pin, or shaft on which a mechanism turns or oscillates.
Synonyms – fulcrum, axis, axle, swivel, pin, hub
Sentence – The closer the central pivot point is to the cam, the wider the valve opening.
8. Bolster (verb) – आधार
Meaning – Support or strengthen
Synonyms – support, reinforce, make stronger, boost.
Sentence – the fall in interest rates is starting to bolster confidence
9. Posit (noun) – किसी स्थिति में रखना
Meaning – to say that something is true or that something should be accepted as true
Sentence – Lots to tear apart and disagree with, there, but it’s a posit.
10. Prevailing (adjective) – प्रचलित
Meaning – existing at a particular time or in a particular place
Sentence – The unfavourable prevailing economic conditions.
11. Imbalance (noun) – असंतुलन
Meaning – a situation in which the balance between two things is not equal or fair
Synonyms – variance, unevenness, polarity, contrast, variation
Sentence – Tension is generated by the imbalance of power.
12. Gauge (noun) – नाप
Meaning – a piece of equipment that measures the amount of something
Synonyms – measuring device, meter, measure
Sentence – When I made an instrument approach, the fuel gauge was on empty.
13. Protracted (adjective) – फैला हुआ
Meaning – continuing for a long time, especially longer than is normal or necessary
Synonyms – very long, of considerable length, long-lasting, prolonged
Sentence – A protracted and bitter dispute.
14. Sanguine (adjective) – आशावादी
Meaning – confident and hopeful about what might happen, especially in a difficult situation.
Synonyms – optimistic, bullish, hopeful, buoyant, positive
Sentence – He is sanguine about prospects for the global economy.
15. Hinterland (noun) – आंतरिक इलाके
Meaning – an area that is a long way from a town or city
